Proposed Changes to Corridors

Proposed changes to Xpress service for each major corridor, including route alignment and schedules, can be viewed below. Click each image for larger viewing. An interactive view of the proposed routes and stops can also be viewed here

I-20 East Corridor

The I-20 East corridor is proposed to be reduced from three routes (423, 426, and 428) and three park and rides (Panola Road, West Conyers, and East Conyers) to a single modified Route 426 serving two park and rides (West Conyers and Panola Road). While direct service to Downtown/Midtown Atlanta will continue, service frequency is proposed to decrease from every 30 minutes to every 50 minutes during peak periods. Customers currently using East Conyers Park and Ride can shift to West Conyers Park and Ride, located 7-9 minutes further east along I-20.

US 78 Corridor

The US-78 corridor is proposed to maintain one route (419), serving two parks and rides (Hewatt Road and Snellville). Direct service to Downtown/Midtown Atlanta will continue, but frequency is proposed to decrease from every 15-30 minutes to every 60 minutes during peak times. Customers currently using Stone Mountain Park and Ride can shift to Hewatt Road Park and Ride, located 5-10 minutes further east along US-78.

I-85 North Corridor

The I-85 North corridor is proposed to be reduced from seven Xpress routes (410, 411, 412, 413, 414, 416, 417) across four park and rides (Hamilton Mill, Mall of Georgia, Sugarloaf Mills, and Dacula) to six routes (411, 412, 413, 414, 415, 416) serving five total park and rides, including two currently served by Ride Gwinnett Commuter Bus Services (Buford and Indian Trail Park and Rides). Direct service to Downtown/Midtown Atlanta and Emory will continue with adjusted frequencies. Customers using Mall of Georgia Park and Ride can shift to either Buford Park and Ride (7 minutes west near I-985) or Sugarloaf Park and Ride (10 minutes south along I-85). Additionally, all Ride Gwinnett commuter bus services (Routes 101, 102, 103, and 110) are proposed to be merged into Xpress.

GA 400 Corridor

The GA-400 corridor is proposed to be reduced from two routes (400 and 401) to one route (401) serving the Cumming Park and Ride. The proposed service will provide direct access to Perimeter Center at three MARTA stations every 60 minutes during peak periods. Customers currently using Route 400 for Downtown/Midtown access will need to use Route 401 and transfer to MARTA’s Red Line at Medical Center Station, which operates every 10 minutes during peak times.

I-75 North Corridor

The I-75 North corridor is proposed to be reduced from five routes (480, 483, 484, 485, and 490) and four park and rides (Town Center, Hickory Grove, Woodstock, and Acworth) to one modified Route 484 serving two park and rides (Hickory Grove and Town Center). While direct service to Midtown Atlanta will continue, frequency is proposed to decrease from every 20-60 minutes to every 60 minutes during peak periods. Customers using Acworth Park and Ride can shift to Hickory Grove Park and Ride (7-9 minutes south along I-75), while Woodstock Park and Ride customers can shift to Town Center/Big Shanty Park and Ride (7-10 minutes south along I-575).

I-20 West Corridor

The I-20 West corridor is proposed to maintain its current two routes (463 and 476) and four park and rides (Hiram, Powder Springs, West Douglas, and Douglas Multimodal Transportation Center). However, service frequency is proposed to decrease from every 20-30 minutes to every 60 minutes during peak periods. No park and ride locations are proposed for closure in this corridor.

I-85 South Corridor

The I-85 South corridor is proposed to maintain one route (453), serving one park-and-ride (Newnan). Instead of direct Downtown/Midtown service, buses will connect to the Lakewood/Fort McPherson MARTA Station every 45 minutes during peak periods. Customers will need to transfer to MARTA’s Red or Gold lines, which operate every 10 minutes during peak times, to reach Downtown/Midtown Atlanta.

I-75 South Corridor

The I-75 South corridor is proposed to be reduced from six routes (430, 431, 432, 440, 441, and 442) and six park and rides (Riverdale, Hampton, Jonesboro, Stockbridge, BrandsMart, and McDonough) to two routes (430 and 441) serving three park and rides (McDonough, Stockbridge, and Jonesboro). Direct service to Downtown/Midtown Atlanta will continue with reduced frequency from every 30-60 minutes to every 60 minutes during peak periods. Customers using Riverdale or Hampton park and rides can shift to Jonesboro Park and Ride (10-minute drive), while BrandsMart Park and Ride customers can shift to Stockbridge Park and Ride (4-minute drive).

Downtown and Midtown Atlanta

Changes are also proposed for how each corridor provides service to Downtown and Midtown Atlanta. Routes along I-20 East, I-20 West, I-75 South, and US-78 are proposed to have a similar routing in Downtown and Midtown. All routes from these corridors are proposed to serve Downtown and Midtown with the same route, slightly different than today with some routes serving either Downtown or Midtown. Routes are proposed to operate primarily along Mitchell St, MLK Jr, Peachtree Center, and Courtland Street within Downtown and along West Peachtree and Spring St within Midtown, similar to today.

The I-85 North corridor is proposed to have separate routes serve Downtown or Midtown, similar to today. Shown in dark blue, I-85 North routes are proposed to follow I-75/I-85 and then split to serve stops in either Downtown or Midtown.

The I-75 North corridor, shown in light blue, is proposed to follow I-75/I-85 to the Civic Center MARTA Station and then serve stops along West Peachtree St to the Arts Center MARTA Station in Midtown.
