Update regarding the changes to Xpress Bus service that took effect on June 16, 2025
As a transit service, we continually evolve to better meet the travel demands of our riders. While service adjustments are sometimes necessary, our commitment remains the same — to operate a transit system that is both convenient and customer-focused.
Following extensive analysis and planning, guided by unprecedented levels of customer input, the ATL downsized Xpress service to align with lagging post-pandemic ridership and budget reduction. These recent modifications were designed to enhance efficiency by more closely aligning service levels with demand. However, we recognize that some adjustments have inadvertently led to overcrowding on certain routes. This is largely due to increased ridership since our initial analysis, which was based on the most current data available at the time. In response, we are actively monitoring ridership trends and have deployed additional buses as needed to help alleviate overcrowding.
Based on data collected since the implementation of the service changes, we are actively assessing seat availability on all routes and will soon be able to make informed recommendations for service improvements. “We are diligently working to implement modified service schedules that better reflect current ridership patterns by late summer or early fall,” said Cain Williamson, ATL Deputy Executive Director. “We sincerely appreciate the patience and trust of our Xpress riders during this transition.”
Thank you for your interest in the ATL. We remain committed to keeping the public and our riders informed.
